The goal from Haller was sweet a great bit of play but Antonio again is a beast of a player and set it all up.

As for Var I have wanted technology to come into football for over 10 years especially since Lampards goal was ruled against at the world cup v Germany. The sad truth is that it is killing the flow of the game and too often does not even work properly unless everything is so obvious a two year old could call it and occasionally even then it fucks up.

Watching live and then rewatching our game on MOTD a couple of times, both decisions were harsh and could have gone either way but probably correct.

Antonio and Haller raped them in the first hour and Fornals had one of his best games for us so far. I know opinions are out about him but my feeling is that he could become a fan's favourite as he matures. He's still very young, remember.

Taking off Haller and replacing him with Sanchez was very negative but then again, if they scored Pelle would be out of a very lucrative job and his reputation would be sullied - so I kind of get that.

Anderson is not suited to the Prem and we're better without him. He slows it down too much and rarely takes on his man anymore. I'd sell him in Jan and get in Shelvey and also go all out to get Danny Ings.

The commentator on the Sky highlights said the assault on Haller wasn't a foul. How the fuck can a ref, a linesman, a commentator and some cunt on a VAR machine not give a penalty for that?

If it weren't for the Grief merchants, Leicester would win it this year

Because it's West Ham, so it doesn't matter. The same as the fact that when we beat Chelsea they committed ZERO fouls against us according to the officials, but other than a very brief Lineker comment, it's forgotten.
But we're fans moaning about it. And it all evens out over the season. Well we're due a season like Leicester's when they won the league if that's the case...

VAR is bullshit because if referees can’t be allowed to make the normal distribution of errors then there is no point in having them.

What didn’t help I thought was the push on Haller looked like a nailed on penalty in real time at real speed but when slowed down by VAR looked less so

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
Why do we never hear any of this nonsense when the likes of Salah or Kane are touched and go flying and it’s given in a heartbeat?
Haller was shoved to the ground to prevent an obvious scoring opportunity and Antonio was in a choke hold that would be penalised in WWF.
Not sure how these decisions are made with a straight face.

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
Some well-respected ref* kept saying that there was nothing else the Soton defender who fouled Haller could do.

How does that make what he did not a foul? Intent doesn't count for fouls against any other team any more, so why does it for fouls against West Ham?

*forget who it was, and I'm not among those who respect him. Collina was the last one I respected

Some of the slagging off of Haller on here was ̶u̶n̶b̶e̶l̶i̶e̶v̶a̶b̶l̶e̶
all too believable.

Without Antonio, we play in a way that doesn't fit well with him (although it probably doesn't fit well with any striker).

Put a team around him that's a good fit, and he's bloody good. (Possible upgrades to more than bloody good will probably be applicable when he gets fully back into the swing of things).

Ryan Fredericks is an awful footballer..

He can’t pass, cross, defend.

He can run fast i a straight line.. terrible terrible player.

Dermot Gallagher was on the sports channel I watched the game on & he supported the ref & VAR, which was sadly predictable, but unbelievable! I foolishly thought that a defenders arm around a forwards neck might constitute a pen, let alone the obvious barge! Two ex-footballers in the studio said it was a nailed on pen. As already stated, MOTD hardly even bothered talking about it?? As nearly always, it hardly ever gives our way, VAR, or pre-VAR!

exactly. it could have been two penalties, some of these referees need to be replaced as they're judgement is questionable

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
That VAR decision for the 'penalty' seriously needs to be looked into. There is not a person on the fucking planet that wouldn't think that's a penalty, except apparently for the cunt paid to make the decision. It's hard to fathom what the thought process was? 2 blatant fouls, it couldn't have been more clear cut.

Antonio and Haller up front....why ? did it take so...long..to figure this out ?? Antonio was..awesome..awesome...and Haller did what he is paid to do...feed off of a pass and....score...Yes, of course this will not work against all teams but after so many losses....something dramatic was required...results so far have been..abysmal...WHF Come On You Irons..

VAR in its present form is shit and doesn't work. Kills the excitement of scoring, still gets many decisions wrong. We'll have to suffer it for two seasons until they make drastic changes to preserve the cash cow that is modern football. Cunts.

Re: ⚽ Soton v West Ham - Official Match Thread - In memory of Gavros
The new handball rule is clear
However a ball touches an attackers arm * in the build up to a goal it will be ruled out. Even if it’s completely accidental or as in Antonio’s case the ball is kicked into his hand

* Not applicable when Dele Alli jumps up to control a ball deliberately with an upper arm before scoring.

I watched match of the. Day, specifically to see what was said and basically they just accepted it with no discussion. I’m if it had been ManU it would have been a tragedy of justice. Really crap programme.
